MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Some Mobile residents are hoping the city council will not close a portion of their neighborhood. Nearly a dozen homeowners gathered in the Airmont community Monday to rally the recent decision by city leaders. We told you last week council approved to close a portion of Montclaire Way at Airmont Drive. Folks in favor of the closure say it's an issue of traffic and increased crime. One resident said she believes the move goes against Mayor Stimpson's idea of One Mobile. "To me this feels like a segregated Mobile moving backwards separately and I don't want to see that. We are all a community here. I like to see my community, like to live within my community, I like to touch my community. I don't believe in building walls," said resident Christina Cooley. Residents at Monday's protest say they have taken legal action.
