MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) In life, everyone wants a shot. It's what people do with it. That's the story that differentiates one player from another.

For Divine Miracle Myles, the Blount High School senior's tale started 18 years ago, in his mother's womb. At only six months into her pregnancy, Tonya Myles-Reed went into labor. Doctors said she was high risk and later declared her baby dead.

"They said he had no lungs, eyes had not developed and his heart has stopped," Reed said. 

Yet somehow, someway, he survived.

Divine intervention, maybe. But defying the odds in his tale were still questionable. Myles was extremely premature and medical professionals weren't hopeful about his quality of life. 

"They said he would not ever be a normal kid, that he would be mentally retarded and would not ever develop motor skills as other kids his age," Reed said.

But keeping the faith, her family never treated her son any different. By the time he was in school, Myles was thriving,especially when it came to sports. 

"I know the Lord is my savior," Myles said, "and I know that He's going to bring me through great things."

The past four years, Myles has led the way as a point guard on Blount High School's basketball team. This week, he's preparing to graduate and has accepted a basketball scholarship to Stetson University.

As he gets ready to walk across the stage, it's another shot to continue the story that wasn't supposed to be told.
