MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Middle Bay Lighthouse may be moved to Battleship Park in Mobile. Tuesday, the Mobile City Council will vote on a resolution that supports the move. Retired Naval Captain Hal Pierce, who serves on the Lighthouse Association, said once the lighthouse is moved, it will still be accessible by water. Pierce said the plan is for boat tours to run from the newly built Maritime Museum to the lighthouse once the museum opens in downtown Mobile. "And there's great interest in it. We've already been contacted by a couple of tour boats. We don't even know what that can come to. We'll have the dock, they'll have the dock, and that's what the city council is mainly interested in they want to support that maritime museum," Pierce said. Pierce estimates it will cost $1 million to move the lighthouse. He said private funds are being raised to move it.
