Pedestrian Hit, Killed in Orange Beach

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WPMI) For the second time in a month, a vacationer was hit and killed on an Alabama beach by an alleged drunk driver.

The latest deadly crash happened in Orange Beach.

Authorities say a 44-year-old man from Tennessee was vacationing in Orange Beach, when he tried to cross Highway 182 near Caribe Saturday night. Sometime around 10 p.m., the victim was hit by a car. Police identified the driver as Danny Pylant, he was arrested for driving under the influence. 

A newly erected speed limit sign was put in the area of the crime scene on Saturday. The warning appears friendly to some travelers, but for beach goers, it's a grim reminder of the tragedy.

"It's too common, happens to much," said Becca Freeman, who lives on Orange Beach. 

"It's just a dangerous situation, we just want every to have a great time here, whether you're a local person or from out of town, we just want it to be safer,"said Kris White. 

The most recent accident comes just two weeks after the death of  Kasey Waychoff. The Oklahoma State University spring breaker was hit and killed bya suspected drunk driver while walking along the road in Gulf Shores. 
With two victims and two weeks, the community want officials to pick up the speed when it comes to safety.

"We're just so concerned that, the cars go by so quickly, and there's really no sidewalks, there's so many people that drink and drive," White said. 

Pylant was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, with additional charges pending. No mug shot was available for him as of Sunday.
