Local Business Prepares to Print BCS Championship T-Shirts

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) Regardless of who wins the BCS Title Championship Monday, one business owner in Mobile will be ecstatic. Dennis Wombaugh owns Ink Works, and his company will make the National Championship shirts no matter who wins. Traditionally, a business from each teams region gets the contract to make the t-shirts depending on who wins. This year was a little different because Auburn and Florida State are in the same region. Immediately after the game, Ink Works will work 17 hours straight to screen print more than 20,000 T-shirts. We're printing either Auburn or Florida State. Our contract is with both teams--which ever ones wins, said Wombaugh. Friday his crew prepped for the big matchup between the Tigers and Seminoles, double checking equipment and ink. Ink Works will simultaneously print from two locations. One is on St. Francis Street and the other is on Dauphin Island Parkway. The nature of the job is time dated. So we will start immediately after the game and we'll print nonstop for 17 hours. Ink Works is expected to push out about 1,400 T-shirts per hour. After the shirts are screen printed with different colored inks, they will bake and dry. These shirts will be sent to Wal Mart, Sams, K-mart, and I believe JC Penny's, said Wombaugh. They'll have drivers here as early as 2 in the morning picking up shirts here. He added, There's a lot involved, and not only that we have to box them a certain way. They have to have hangers and tags and things like that. Actually the printing is probably the easiest part of this job.
