It started with rapper Tupac, and the most recent one we've seen was Michael Jackson. Now hologram technology is moving to smartphones.

Startup company Ostendo is working on computer chips capable of projecting 3D holograms that will be tiny enough to fit iside a cell  phone, that's according to tech website Mashable.

The chip can project an image on up to 48 inches of display, multiple chips working together can project larger images.

It'll cost about $30.

The company said 2D project units will be for sale next year.
