NEW ORLEANS (WPMI) Thursday Alabama takes on Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl. Fans on both sides can barely wait.The teams have been in New Orleans since Friday. Meanwhile, fans have been pouring into the Crescent City all week.NOLA is already an area known for celebration, add in one of college football's biggest and history bowl games and you have quite the recipe for the perfect party.Many fans came to town Tuesday to ring in the New Year and Wednesday it was all about the Sugar Bowl.Local 15's Derrick Rose got a glimpse of the coveted Sugar Bowl trophy while checking in for media. The trophy got its name in 1830 in London during the reign of King George IV. What better city to have the Sugar Bowl then New Orleans where the sugar industry was born.For the teams playing in the big game, they've got a lot of support. No animosity here, said Oklahoma fan Darrell Gipson. So you're torn a little bit? asked Rose. 'But leaning this way, added Gipson.The city has been very welcoming. Everyone seems to be their own tourist agent down here, they're very nice, very receptive, said Alabama fan Judy Weeks.So far, we've just had a hamburger. I'm looking for some good food, I'm looking for some of that crawfish, said Oklahoma fan Donna Gipson.Now look, I'm a fat man, we're looking for food, added Oklahoma fan Mike Hamilton.
