MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The Mobile City Council decided Tuesday to hold over a decision on spending nearly half a million dollars on Hank Aaron Stadium. Mayor Sandy Stimpson asked the council to transfer $464,649.57 from the 2015 Fiscal Year budget to a Hank Aaron Baseball Stadium fund to begin capital improvements to the stadium. Stimpson says the improvements will help the stadium come into compliance with Minor League Baseball, make the field safe for play and improve the fan experience. If approved, over the next two years, Stimpson plans to use the money allocated to: Replace the field lights (2015) Upgrade the audio system (2015) Install field rail padding (2015) Resurface the playing surface (2016) Fix drainage issues (2016) Stimpson says the turf would be repurposed and placed in a city park for city sports leagues and residents recreational use. The council will discuss the proposed plan again in two weeks. Click here for previous story.
