Facebook Warns of Shutdown Hoax

Facebook says it will not be shutting down November 15 despite what you may read on the internet. Facebook is calling the stunt a hoax, saying there is no such thing as overpopulation and folks with inactive accounts aren't being punished.

A copy of the hoax making the rounds in Facebook read in part:

"Dear Facebook members, Facebook is supposed to be closing down November 15 because it is becoming very overpopulated. There have been many members complaining that Facebook is becoming very slow... We will be sending this message around to see if members are active or not. If you are active, please send this to 15 other users using copy paste to show you are still active."

The post goes on to claim you have two weeks to send it to 15 of your friends or you will be deleted. It claims to be from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook founder.

Hoax Slayer commented on All Facebook's post saying that most companies do have a policy of deleting inactive accounts but they will always contact the user directly and never ask to share posts with friends.

If you receive the message, do not share it. Also, let the person who sent it to you know that it's a hoax.
