Phillip Sear plays a fun piece from 1953 by the English pianist Sidney Bright (1903-76). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sidney Bright, son of a north London Jewish tailor, was the twin brother of the famous bandleader Gerald Bright - aka Geraldo. Sidney studied at the Royal Academy of Music and went on to play in various elite dance bands of the 1920s to 1950s, including those run by Jack Hylton, Carroll Gibbons - and, of course, his own twin. He also ran his own bands and smaller groups. Latterly he worked as a solo pianist at the Café Royal in London. This is a very tricky piece of the novelty kind, although at a glance it looks easy since there are not many notes. However the tempo indication is 'Fast' and the composer means it! I have slightly swung the melody in the central blues section, although there is no explicit instruction to do so. My thumbnail shows a 2017 photo (from Tripadvisor) of the Café Royal laid out for afternoon tea. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
