I've replaced all of my incandescent holiday lights with LED string lights because not only do they last longer, but they save on electricity. Having these outdoor lights use solar to recharge the batteries is yet another step towards energy efficiency and savings. This string light consists of 100 LED lights spaced every 4" and has 6.5' of running cord between the first light and the solar panel. The total length is about 40 feet.

The button to turn the unit on/off is on the back of the solar panel as is the button to switch between the modes. Note that there are only two actual "modes": always-on and animated, though with the animations there are 8 different patterns that repeat. You cannot choose only one of these patterns to display. When the unit is on, the solar panel acts as a light sensor and will only switch the lights on when it is sufficiently dark out.

The lights have a nice brilliant white color and not the amber glow of incandescent lights. The individual bulbs also don't cast a lot of ambient light so they won't illuminate their surroundings, though they look great as little pinpricks of light in the darkness. They're great for holiday decorations, landscaping and outdoor decor. Try wrapping them around a pole or railing for some festivity!
