From 'Les Rêves', 5 Mélomimiques. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rebikov (1866-1920) conceived the Mélomimique as a new art-form, blending music with pantomime (although not intended to be physically moved to), and he wrote several sets around 1900. This waltz is the most French-sounding of the pieces in the set, with a little Franckian harmony in the central section. Rebikov provides the following scenario (my translation): "In the moonlight some nymphs dance, and the rhythmic tread of their feet resonates through the sleeping forest." For more on Rebikov, see http://www.pytheasmusic.org/rebikov.html . My thumbnail is based on Leon Bakst's 1911 scenery design (incorporating a forest) for a classical ballet on the theme of Narcissus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk (Email: [email protected] WhatsApp: http://wa.me/441444483794 ) TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@pianogems
